This is fun and friendly equestrian sport, which the whole family can be involved in, from ages 8 to 75. It is known as "The King of the One Horse Sport", as players only require one horse to play the sport unlike Polo where you require more than one.
Polocrosse resembles the American Indian game of lacrosse, its origins date back hundreds of years to Persia and its sister sport of Polo. In England Polocrosse was an indoor exercise to teach people how to ride a horse. The modern game took shape in Australia in the 1930's. Today , there are over 6000 players in the World. After participating in the 2007 Polocrosse World Cup Tournament the UK came 2nd and has won the bid to host the 2011 world cup.
All types of horse can play polocrosse, every breed , size and age. Speed, agility and stamina are desirable, but the only requirement is that the horse be in sound physical condition.
Savannah Equestrian are starting up a Polocrosse club, and looking to form a league for this region, we are looking for anybody of any riding ability (even non-riders, as we can teach you to ride as part of the process) who might be interested in getting involved in this exciting sport.
We are proud to announce that Kim Lampard (Former Zimbabwean International Polocrosse Player) will be carrying out the training at Savannah, so we are offering coaching for this sport of the highest quality. Bring the whole family for a fabulous day out, either bring your own horse / Pony or we have them available here. Initially lessons are carried out on foot in order to learn the handling of the racket, then very quick progression onto horseback.
